What are Cell Groups?
Cell Groups are small groups of adults, teens and children who meet in homes around Memphis on a weekly basis for ministry, Bible study, worship, prayer, and outreach. The majority of ministry takes place in these small communities. Why do we call our small groups "cells"? Just as healthy cells in our physical bodies naturally grow and multiply, the "body of Christ" is designed to grow and multiply, both numerically and spiritually. We think the best way to "do church" is in these small close-knit communities.
Where and When do they meet?
Each cell group meets in the home of one of its members at various locations in and around Memphis.
What do children do?
Participate! The children participate with adults during the fellowship and worship time. Each week there is a special discussion/teaching time specially geared for the children called “KidSlot.” After KidSlot they are usually dismissed for playtime, watch a video so that the adults can share without the kids hearing all the “grownup talk.”
Who can be in a cell group?
Anyone is welcome in a Cell Group at anytime. Our Cell Groups give newcomers easy access to relationships and involvement in the community.
Where did this idea come from?
Many churches are rediscovering the power of ministry on a "small group" level within a big church. However, the example of this empowering church structure was enjoyed by the earliest Christians. In the Bible, the book of Acts shows us Christians meeting daily in the temple courts and in their homes [Acts 2:46-47].
What do Cell Groups study?
Cell Groups will often discuss practical life application of our Sunday morning sermon. In some cases, groups will temporarily study other topics based on the needs of the group or individuals. Questions on any topic are always welcome.
Is everyone in the church expected to be in a Cell Group?
Yes. We believe Cell Groups provide the greatest opportunity for creating community as well as for spiritual growth. Therefore we encourage everyone who seeks to be a partner (our term for “member”) at Cordova Community Church to commit to a cell group. This is where you will minister and be ministered to as a member of this community.
How long do I stay in a group?
Cell Groups are designed to "multiply" regularly. That means that as they grow to about 16 consistent attendees, the group will then “birth” a new group. This process will repeat itself over and over again as each cell grows.
How do I get involved in a Cell Group?
ach group is different. So feel free to visit as many groups as you like. Our Cell Leaders are always available for questions. You can pick up maps to the various locations in and around Memphis at our Sunday morning Welcome Table or click here.
